Technical Operations Manager/Director
Bruce Holt has been immersed in the family business since childhood, learning the art of shoemaking from the ground up. With this hands-on experience and knowledge of all facets of the business, he leads our technical team and oversees every aspects of the project.
Experience
At 21, Bruce moved to Fiji to manage the shoe factory with 180 staff. During this time, he co-chaired the Fiji Footwear Manufacturers Association and served on the Fiji Manufacturers Association board.
In 1995, Bruce returned to New Zealand to rejoin the family business. Over time, he and his brother Alan swapped roles, with Alan taking over sales and Bruce focusing on manufacturing. Bruce’s expertise in technical design CAD and CAM, raw material selection, and tool manufacturing has been instrumental in Jakaar’s success.
He has developed his skills through decades of industry experience, working with complex machinery and adapting to the demands of diverse production processes. His passion lies in creating solutions, satisfying customers, and fostering a collaborative team environment. Ensuring the maximum operational efficiency and meeting business objectives; including implementing strategies to improve efficiency and compliance for industry standards.
Personal Interests
If not running the business, Bruce would pursue a career in commercial scuba diving or sailing, two lifelong passions. He finds motivation in the daily challenges of manufacturing, creating products from scratch, and working with a talented team.
Working with Family
Bruce credits his father, Ken, with teaching him invaluable lessons about people, design, and customer service. Ken’s innovative spirit and ability to build strong teams continue to inspire Bruce as he manages Jakaar alongside his brother.
Sales Manager/Director
Alan, brings decades of industry experience and a practical approach to leading Jakaar. His passion for precision and innovation drives the company’s commitment to both technical and relational aspects of Jakaar, ensuring the business continues to grow and maintain its reputation for delivering high-quality plastic solutions and customer satisfaction.
Experience
Alan has been an integral part of the family business from a young age. Developing his expertise and honing his skills in toolmaking and engineering. Starting his career at Jakaar in the toolroom, after completing his degree qualifications in Advance Trade in Toolmaking and New Zealand Certificate of Engineering in Plastics, which laid the foundation for his technical proficiency and problem-solving abilities.
As the business grew, Alan transitioned into a sales-focused role, where he now oversees customer relations and ensures clients receive exceptional service. His extensive knowledge of the manufacturing and tooling process along with his ability to connect with customers make him an invaluable part of the Jakaar team.
Alan’s passion lies in understanding customer needs and delivering tailored solutions that align with Jakaar’s ethos of innovation and quality. His collaborative approach, combined with his technical expertise, enables the company to create products that consistently exceed expectations.
Personal Interests
Outside of work, Alan enjoys hands-on projects that allow him to apply his technical skills creatively with renovating houses. When he does find time, he enjoys boating and getting out on the water with the family.
Working with Family
Alan reflects on the unique experience of working within a family business. Whilst it comes with its challenges, such as overlapping work and home life, he appreciates the freedom to make quick decisions, take risks, and innovate innovate autonomously. He values the strong team dynamic at Jakaar, which he believes is key to the company’s success.
